What Causes Yellowish Colored Coating On Armpit Hair?
I ve been really negligent about my arpmits. A long time ago, I noticed a yellowish coating on my arpit hair. I thought it was a normal armpit thing, so I d just shave it. But even after shaving, I d see a yellowish coating on some hair follicles. I took a closer look and thought I saw a tiny yellow worm-like creature moving. I panicked and tried all kinds of things like baking soda, dial, creams, and even continuously using mouthwash on my pits. My question is, what is the yellow coating or creatures? Is it normal?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your problem of yellow discoloration of armpits can be due to fungal infection like tinea versicolor or skin irritation from deodorants or shaving. If you send a picture of it then it will be more helpful in identifying. In case of tinea versicolor , using antifungal soaps or lotion of ketoconazole will be helpful to clear it. Use not irritating blades for shaving armpits. Also use hypoallergic deodorants or antiperspirants if you want to use. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
