What Causes Yellowish White Irregular Patches On Tongue?

I have a yellow/white growth on my tongue that came up overnight 2 days ago. It is on top and right in the middle. It is raised about 1/4 inch from the surface and irregular in shape. I thought thrush at first, but it has not spread at all and it doesn't look exactly like any photos I can find on line. There was a sore spot there about 24 hours before the growth appeared

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a yellowish white growth ver the tongue can be most commonly due to yeast infection also known as Oral Thrush while if it is in the form of ulcer it can also be an Apthous ulcer..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like microscopic examination of scraping of the lesion and biopsy can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
As of now if there is pain and soreness you can apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine..
Take a soft and bland diet..
Do warm saline gargles..
Maintain a good oral hygiene..
