What Complications Do Vomiting During Surgery Cause?

my friends mom just had surgery...she is 76 for the second time in three days. She had had a hip replacement given she had fractured her hip by a fall. While in bed recuperating in the hospital, she dislocated it. She also developed pneumonia after the operation. they put her in a step down unit She then developed low sodium which resolved. yesterday she went back to correct the dislocation and while in surgery she vomited. Now she is incubated and sedated. What are some impacts of vomiting during surgery..?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Vomiting during surgery leads to complications like aspiration where the bowel contents leak to lungs and cause complications. It is a potential complication of anesthesia and proper management is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
