What Could A Large Dark Shadow Above The Right Macula Be ?

Hi i went to the optometrist today and he took a photo of inside my eye. There was a large dark shadow above my right macular which he thought was a reflection. He then took another photo and the shadow was still there so he referred me to a specialist. What could this be?
