Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello .my name is Mary...I am 69 years old I am 5 2 and about 187 lbs. Yesterday I was taking my blood pressure and when the cuff tightened around my arm I felt a pop. Last night I noticed a lump below my ear that was painful to the touch. It seems to have traveled a bit lower and is still painful. Do you have any idea what could this be?
I can understand your concern. The lump below ear you have noticed does not seem to have any connection with the sound you felt while taking blood pressure.
As the lump is painful to touch, it could be an inflamed and infected preauricular lymph node. The lymph can be inflamed due to infection in the ear, decayed upper tooth or inflammation of the TMJ area. However, chances are more that it could be related to ear infection.
I would advise you to take Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days. This will resolve the infection in the ear.
However, if you are feeling any discomfort or pain in the arm, a physician should be consulted. In addition, if the pain and swelling of lymph node does not resolve in five days, an ENT specialist should be seen.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM for your concern. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
