What Could A Recurring Lump On The Back Indicate, Oozes Smelly Discharge?

My husband has a bump on his back that has been there for over a year now and we are just now able to burst it and thick black smelly stuff came out. And alot of of. But not all comes out at one time and its like it builds BA k uptown a couple days and repeat the same process over.
