What Could An Enduring Painless Sore In The Mouth Signify Despite Using Mouthwash?
Hello, around November 11 I noticed I had an extremely painful sore in my mouth and I couldn t eat for 3 days, I bought orajel mouthwash and it eased the pain and after awhile I was able to eat again. It s been a couple of weeks and my sore isn t painful at all anymore but it isnt going away and still there. I went to my dentist and she referred me to a specialist but I want an opinion on what it looks like and if it looks serious. I have a picture nut I don t know how to post it here.
Normally, ulcers in the oral cavity heal within 10-14 days without any specific treatment. However, if any ulcer of mouth does not heal within 3 weeks, it should be investigated properly for finding the cause and treatment done accordingly. This may be the reason, your dentist has referred you to a specialist. Particularly, any infective reason like viral, bacterial or fungus may be there. Also, a possibility of mouth cancer can not be ruled out in such cases and hence, histopathological study of the ulcer may also be needed for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
