What Could Be Causing The Drop In Temperature In A Diabetic Person Who Has Suffered From Stroke?

Our 32 year old son was diagnosed with diabetes at 10, antiphosoholipid antibody syndrome at 14, and had a massive stroke in June. He is also doctoring for open wounds on his left leg. He has been in bed the last couple days due to extreme fatigue and this morning is running low body temp around 94.5-95.1. What could be causing the low temp?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's clinical details and the list of diagnoses.

Low temperature (94.5 to 95) along with fatigue requires us to exclude a diagnosis of hypothyroidism (deficiency of thyroid hormones). This can be tested by blood tests, and can be easily treated if detected.

In addition, we need to exclude occult infection, as body temperature may go down instead of increasing in some infective cases.

Low sugar should also be excluded.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Best wishes,
