What Could Be Done For Severe Lower Back Pain?

I have been having lower back pain since 23rd December, it is worse after sitting and when I walk the pain shoots down my leg and up my left side. I am struggling with walking and especially stairs. I have tried Nurofen plus, nurofen gel, ibuprofen, a tens machine, a heat pad but nothing seems to work. Its worse when first getting up and when walking.
