What Could Be The Bubble Of Brown Mucus Coming Out From My Nose?

I had sinus surgery 10 days ago.Today a large bubble of brown thick mucus ,sme out of my nose. It is still commin out when I sit up,or move around. Also draining dwn throat..seems like s mix of blood and saline mix. Is this norma? How do I knw if I should go to er?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

The brown thick mucus coming from nose after sinus surgery in mostly a mix of old blood(which might have occured during bleeding at the time of sinus surgery) with mucus secretions of nose.It is not suggestive of fresh bleeding.

Try using saline nasal drops and a mucolytic like Ambroxol .It will help in liquifying and drainage of any old blood clots with mucus secretions in the nose.Don't blow of cough forcefully as it may lead to fresh nasal bleeding.Avoid removing any crusting in the nose as it may also lead to fresh bleeding.

If you suffer from fresh red coloured bleeding from nose,associated with weakness,dizziness,any vision problem,etc,then it would be advisable to consult an Otolaryngologist doctor.
