Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Be The Cause For Bleeding From Rectum Periodically?
I have had this for some time. When I wipe my buttock after using the restroom I notice blood on the paper, not in the fecal mater but on the paper. After all fecal matter has been wiped clean I still have blood on the paper. I do not have hemorrhoids and it does hurt to wipe when I use course toilet paper. What could it be? Do I need to worry about it. Is it an age thing? I will be 40 this year.
Hi, thank you for the query. The fact that you do not have external hemorrhoid does not rule out the possibility of hemorrhoid as it might likely be the cause of this bleeding. You might be having internal hemorrhoid that has not prolapsed and so is not visible. Other causes might be rectal cancers or fissures (but this is often associated with pain when passing out stool). An examination of the anus and rectum called proctosigmoidoscopy is needed to determine the cause of bleeding. I would suggest you see a gastroenterologist for proper assessment.
I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you. I wish you good health
