Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Every few days I wake up with a bruise on my upper outter thigh. It s always around the same place. Could I be hitting myself in my sleep without knowing it or could this be a condition? The bruise hurts when I touch it and I usually don t even notice it until I look down when using the restroom.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The most common cause of bruising is trauma. If you have a habit of night walking, trauma during night walking cab ve present. Besides trauma, low platelet count is also a cause of bruising. Platelets are responsible for forming platelet plug in the blood vessels to prevent bleeding from small blood vessels. You need to get a complete hemogram and platelet count. Vitamin K deficiency can also lead to bruising. Vitamin K is responsible for synthesis of certain clotting factors. Deficiency of vitamin K inhibits the synthesis of certain clotting factors and thus bruising results. You need to consult your doctor and get relevant investigations done.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
