What Could Be The Cause Of Kidney Size Become Small?
My mother aged 77 years has high blood pressure Last month we came to know that her kidney size has become smaller and her creatine level shot up to 3.4 and her hemogloblin was down to 8 Now she has beeen given two iron supplements intravensously and her hemoglobin is up to 9 and her creteine is down to 2.9 What could be done to reduce cretine level to normal levels and increse kidney size By the way her heart is slightly enlarged Thanks
Based on the history you have given your mother is having grade 3 medical renal disease i.e shrunken kidneys which could be due to chronic hypertension causing micro vascular damage or renal artery stenosis due to atherosclerotic plaques which is again due to chronic hypertension. You have not mentioned if your mother has diabetes which is also known to cause renal disease. In any case there is no way you can increase the size of the kidney. Her creatinine levels have to be brought which is done by doing dialysis. The permanent solution would be a renal transplant regarding which you will have to talk to your treating doctor considering her heart problem as well. Hope this will help. Feel free to ask any more questions if you need to. Thank you.
