my sgpt is 64, i am not a drinker, i am not a smoker, i am currently taking norvasc maintenance for blood pressure . what could be the cause of my high sgpt and is this alarming situation? what do i need to eat and exercise.? thanks
SGPT is an enzyme produced in the liver and is elevated if there is liver injury. It can also be elevated with muscle / lung injury or hemolysis. Differentiation can be done by looking at the values of SGOT, GGT and ALP. Amlodepine (Novosac) rarely causes raised SGPT. With you being hypertensive there is also a chance of having non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Anything that injures the liver ( including alcohol) can elevate SGPT values.
