From history it seems that she might be having thrombo-phlebitis giving this problem.
It is possible that acute infection in lymph nodes spread to vein giving rise thick string like appearance.
Go for one antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicine course for 5 days.
Apply Thrombophob cream on thick string.
