Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Be The Life Expectancy Of A Person Having JC Virus Positive With History Of Cerebral Atrophy?
My husband is 70 years old and has severe cerebral atrophy caused by a brain disease that started 12 years ago. He was treated for 2 years with Cytoxan and improved some. One year ago he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin s lymphoma and received 4 weekly treatments of Retuxan and then 3 quarterly treatments. In January it was discovered that he is J.C. Virus positive so they have now stopped the Retuxan. Neither his oncologist or neurologist want to approach the subject of life expectancy but it would be nice to have an estimate. Sometimes it seems that they are surprised he is still alive. He is mentally active but has little to know energy. Are there any tables on life expectancy for someone in this situation?
Median life expectancy of JCV reactivation is 6 months, carries poor prognosis as he is also now immunodeficiency, but this is not hard and fast rule it may vary.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
