What Could Be The Reason For Chest Pain After Blood Vessel Outside Heart Ruptured And Diagnosed With Diabetes But Never Had Symptoms?

My husband has a very high metabolism. He went to the emercency room after falling to the floor with chest pain. E.r. doc said a blood vessel outside his heart ruptured. He was admitted into hospital but he tests were done on his heart. New doc thinks he has diabetes but has never shown any signs. Blood sugar was 189 after eating an apple.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Yes. As your doctor said your Husband is Diabetic.
Because his blood sugar level is high(189 mg/dl). Recommended blood sugar level is below 140 mg/dl.
As he had chest pain and sudden fall after that, doctor may suspected any Aortic Aneurysm.
Fortunately, thank god, he does not had any rupture in aorta.
Chest pain of both Heart attack and Rupture aortic aneurysm are indistinguishable.
Diabetic patients are at higher risk of heart attack than others.
Thus he is at risk of heart attack.
He need complete evaluation of his cardiac system and investigations like Electrocardiogram, Echo cardiogram and Treadmill stress test.
You have to check his Fasting, Post prandial blood sugar and HbA1C level.
Depending upon his blood sugar level and HbA1C, He need Proper oral Hypoglycemics.
He need life style changes and Regular exercise and diabetic diet.
He need regular check and follow up with Primary care Physician.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Diabetes mellitus is characterised by fasting blood sugar above 100 mg% and after having food above 200 mg% (2 hours after having food).
Blood sugar level 189 mg% after having food is suggestive of glucose intolerance.
You need to get fasting blood sugar levels done.
Blood sugar level above 100 mg% is suggestive of diabetes and medication is required.
Rupture of blood vessel outside the heart is serious problem.
You need to consult your physician for further work up.

Thanks and take care
