What Could Be The Reason For Feeling Of Fullness In Both Ears, Whooshing Sound In Left Ear With History Of Problem In Eustacian Tube?
Hi Dr. Sumit, I have the following symptoms. I ve had eustacian tube problems for about ten years. Both of my ears feel full. When I yawn, this relieves them for a while. There is a whooshing sound in my left ear that is in sync with my heartbeat. When I yawn, the pressure is alleviated and the whooshing sound disappears for a little while. I m 49 years old. I eat well and am fairly active. My cholesterol has been borderline high. This is not due to diet. I have no other health issues. I m not on any medication. Thank you for answering my question of what this could be. Pamela
I have gone through your query regarding fullness in both ears and whooshing sound in left ear. you are having eustachian tube dysfunction for last ten years. As you said you feel temporary relief on yawing and blowing your nose during cleaning.
Your symptoms and clinical history indicates that you are having chronic eustachian tube dysfunction. Since your problem is for last ten years that means your nose, nasopharynx and throat should be thoroughly examined and investigated for chronic infection like sinusitis, deviated nasal septum, polyp, enlarge adenoids and mass in nose & nasopharynx. Because any of these may give rise to recurrent infection in throat and blockade of eustachian tube.
If any of above disease is detected than that should be treated accordingly to re leave tubal obstruction. But if none of above is found than your tubal dysfunction may be allergic (chronic). In this situation you may take-
a- Steam inhalation.
b- Anti hitaminic.
c- Decongestant.
You may get relief by above but unfortunately if still your problem persists than Grommet insertion on your ear drum is the ultimate treatment.
Regards.
