What Could Be The Reason For Strong Vaginal Odor With Itching, Irritable Vagina And Anus During Periods?

Hi Doctor, I did not see a GYN, but still wanted to present the problem. Here goes: I have been experiencing a very difficult situation that is very personal and embarrassing to say the least. For some time now I have had a strong vaginal odor and I have been to several doctors including Gyn, dermatologist and internal practice. I did the routine STD tests and everything was cleared except that I had a yeast infection. Sometimes I get a terrible itch and my skin in the vaginal area and anus get very irritable to the point that water causes a terrible pain and the only solution is to use a steroid cream, which helps with the itch, on the other hand, I still don’t know the cause. One thing I have notice is that the problem intensifies when my menstrual cycle is close. At times the odor intensifies and is very noticeable, but I don’t know what to use for this problem. I am also experiencing a balloon feeling in the anus area at times. I don t know if this makes a difference, but I thought to mention it. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Hi Welcome to Health care magic forum.
The unexplained smell in the vaginal area may be due to the urinary tract infection, which usually causes dribbling of urine all the time, and it is unnoticed.Other causes may be the gonnerhea, and chlamydia infection.
I advise you to consult a gynecologist for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have culture and sensitivity of the urine, and treatment accordingly.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms cifixime, ornidazole, for 7 days.
Take more of green leafy vegetables, pulses, sprouts and
protein rich foods, to help the early recovery.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Rakesh Karanwal's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

You have not mentioned if your Gyn had prescribed any anti-fungal cream for application.

If not, take oral anti-fungal drug such as Fluconazole daily for 10 days, along with cotrimazole vaginal pessaries daily inside the vagina at bedtime. You will get rid of your problems.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable/modified treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
