What Could Bleeding And Abdominal Cramping In Pregnancy Indicate?
hi i'm 6 week and 4 days pregnant. I started spotting fresh blood 2 days ago with very mild lower abdominal cramping. I was alarmed that's why I went ro Er and had my hcg level drawn (1652IU/L). I had my transvaginal ultrasound today. Radiologist pointed out the gestational sac but nothing was seen. She didn't confirm that I have miscarriage. Any suggestion?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, In normal pregnancy bleeding/spotting needs immediate attention. After 6 weeks 4 days amenorrhoea bleeding & pain does call concern. From your sonologist's report it seems to be a blighted ovum,a chemical pregnancy without fertilisation. So no parts of conception could be seen in USG. Hcg levels take 7-10 days to reseed after evacuation. In such a condition bleeding &expulsion of uterine con-taints is common. I would advise for a repeat scan for confirmation of diagnosis & surgical evacuation with a Gynaecologist's help. Thanks
