What Could Blown Vein In Arm Suggest?

I have a blown vein in the bend of my left arm and it has been 24 hours since the occurrence. It happened at a hospital after they tried to flush my iv once they drew blood. The spot is still swollen, still hurts and the vein line is purple. Should I be concerned something might be wrong?

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read facts of your query and reviewed it in context to your health issues submitted.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.
You seem to have- Thrombophlebitis of the vein in which IV was flushed.
The redeness and edema locally confirms thrombophlebitis from infused Glucose-which acts as irritant and which causes inflammation of that Vein wall, besides the purple colour of that vein.
I would suggest physical examination from doctor and needful treatment of Thrombophlebitis.

Other causes like -Venous thrombophlebitis or failed Iv infusion in subcutaneous tissue in peri-venous area,of arm Vein-needs to be verified and ruled out.
Cause of the Blown out Vein in arm- is thus from inflammation of the Vein wall from Glucose infusion.Other causes need to be ruled out.For this to verify Second opinion from attending doctor - would be needed.

Just don't worry and be patient and co-operate with your doctors, till you verify with your attending doctors.

Hope this would help you to treat your health issues in the best way possible.
