Hi, I,m a 65 yr old female. My throat started hurting about two weeks ago like the start of a sore throat. Around 10 days ago my tongue stared to burn. At first it was at the very back and it would get worse as the day went on. I now have a burning throat and tongue. What the heck is going on??
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per the explanation of symptoms it points towards a condition Burning Mouth Syndrome due to which there is burning sensation in tongue and throat and you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated to rule out the exact cause of burning sensation as there are certain common causes like dry mouth, nutritional deficiency of iron, vitamin B12 and folate, allergic reaction to any medication or food, acid reflux etc.. As of now till the diagnosis is not confirmed you can gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve burning sensation.. Take a multivitamin tablet daily.. Gargle with cold water and suck on ice cubes as it helps in reducing inflammation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
