What Could Cause Back Pain Radiating Down The Leg And In The Front Of The Thigh While Having A Herniated Disc?
HI, I bent over to reach for something this morning and felt a twinge in my back. I have a herniated disk. the pain is going down my left leg and all across my lower back, my twinges in the front of my thighs as well. I went to urgent care and was given a muscle relaxer but after a few hours it doesn t seem to be helping. I was told it was back spasm, should muscle relaxer be helping if that is what it is?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The muscle spasm while bending to reach for something. It had caused nerve root pressure by the herniated disc. Thus, causing muscle spasm in front of thigh. This will go by muscle relaxer pill or specific physiotherapy exercise with extension of back.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
