Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Belching attacks for 1 to 8 hours for the past 20 years and tried with Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex;
endoscopy was done but reports have not been mentioned by you indicate that further clinical evaluation and investigations are required.
Belching indicates that the lower esophageal sphincter is lax.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
• Get a proper opinion of a gastroenterologist.
• Upper GI endoscopy.
• Contrast enhanced CT scan of the whole abdomen to find out whether there is any
intestinal obstruction.
• Barium swallow test.
About the articles you have read about
Gabapentin and
proton pump inhibitors. You have already tried the medicines under the PPI category. Gabapentin may help but needs your doctor's prescription.
What you need is
Domperidone as a motility regulator and treatment of the causative factors. Also, needed is the treatment of the stress and anxiety that may be one of the instigating or enhancing factors.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
