Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi,
My son was born with a cauliflower ear. He had surgery to correct. His other ear has a deformity as well. The sapratratgus i think that's what it's called not sure didn't form correctly instead it's formed sticking out going to almost the bottom of his ear. My 4 week old daughter has the same thing but not the cauliflower ear. What are reasons why my children were born like this? Any causes? I had healthy pregnancies. Next month my son will be getting seen to look in the process to fix his other ear. I just feel so bad for him he's 8 and getting embarassed from it. I guess i'm curious and can't understand why this happened with both my children. Thank you so much.
These structural deformities sometimes have a genetic basis, for which reason both children can be born with such defects. You may or maynot find the same defect in other family members. Anyhow, it is no fault of yours or your spouse, so do not blame yourselves. Thankfully, these are minor defcts.
thanks for the consultation. don't worry this is not serious condition and can always be correctable. The exact cause of bat ear is not known. It does not any association with other system. It is embarassing for bigger children but if you notice earlier then ask for correction after 11/2 year age. Mild defect can be ignored.
