What Could Cause Bloated Stomach In A 20 Months Old?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My 20 month year old had a hard, bloated stomach. She had the flu with vomiting in January and although she has regained her strength, this hard bloated stomach remains. She wakes frequently at night, we presume from discomfort and her stools are many each day and quite smelly. We were advised to maybe stop milk to see if it helped. It doesn t seem to make any difference. Any ideas?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Bloating, or gassiness, is sometimes without an underlying cause. You could try switching some dietary items to see if the bloating reduces. Give her less of garlic, ginger, aubergines, lentils and beans. This might help. Try a laxative to see if there is underlying constipation with overflow diarrhea. Increasing dietary fibre can help too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
