Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A year ago I had complete spinal reconstruction and have been suffering from a bulge on the lower right side of my abdomen. I had 3 surgeons and was opened down my entire spine as well as two entries from my right side where I have the bulge. Within 10 minutes of eating, my abdomen swells as if I were 8 months pregnant . I have had barom enama test, abdominal CT and colonostopy and still no answers as to what this is. Surgeons, technologist, PT and Gastrologist have never seen this before. I am behind in my spinal recovery due to all of these complications. I do not know what to do at this point., has anyone ever heard of this and have a recommendation for me. Its expensive but i have to go to Mayo Clinic because I am tired of suffering .
I am so sorry to hear about this problem. Your symptoms suggest difficulties with the stomach emptying after feeding. This is observed when the nerves responsible for contracting and moving food out of the stomach are affected. With the huge back surgery you underwent, this would be the most likely cause of this problem. I will suggest that you eat in small quantities, liquid foods ad take motility enhancing drugs to help with this for now. I hope you get some much relief from your visit at Mayo.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more clarification or information if need be. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
