Hi My wife got TSH high in recent time. She was taking LTROXIN 25 for 2-3 months and then the thyroid came back to minus level...very low...then stopped the medicine for 2 months and checked the TSH level. Then we saw TSH level incresed to 7.1. Then she is taking the LTROXIN for 20 days and then tested and the level decreased to 6.1. Now she is taking thyronom . can you give some idea how much time it will take to be in the normal range 1-2?
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I can understand your query. In general it takes 6 weeks treatment with levothyroxine to correct the TSH level and to decide if the dose taken during the last 6 weeks is the right one. The dose that your doctor suggested to you is a low one, and it is a bit strange how it caused hyperthyroidism. It is important to follow correctly the instructions of administration of levothyroxine. It should be taken at morning and for one hour is suggested not to drink and eat anything. When you change the brand of levothyroxine (from LTROXIN to Thyronorm), TSH should be checked after 6 weeks. When the correct dose is found, than is recommended to check it every 6 months. Hope the information will help you somewhat. Kind regards.
