What Could Cause Eye Spots In A 18 Months Old Child?
MY 18 MONTH OLD HAS A RED SPOT LOOKS LIKE A SPOT OF BLOOD ON THE WHITE OF HER EYE THAT SEEMS TO BE GETTING BIGGER. I NOTICED IT 3 DAYS AGO. SHE WAS BORN AT 30 WEEKS AND HAS HYDROCEPHALUS ( NOT SHUNTED) LATELY SHE HAS BEEN REALLY CLUMBSY FALLING OVER ALOT FROM LOOSING HER BALANCE SINCE THIS ALL STARTED
Hi.... the symptoms of red spots in the eye which you are quoating could be increased amount of blood vessels in the white of the eye. This is called telengiectasia in medical language. This symptom along with clumsiness and frequent falling fits into a diagnosis called Ataxia Telengiectasia. Other symptom which is related to this disorder is frequent upper respiratory and lung related infections. I suggest you get in touch with a paediatric immunologist and work up the possibility of this diagnosis further. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
