What Could Cause High Level Of Potassium In The Body Of A Type 1 Diabetic Person Who Drink Alcohol And Work Out Daily?
I am a type 1 diabetic since 1975. My HA1C's are around 5.9 - 6.5. I have just been diagnosed with high potassium level of 6.0. I am on lysiniprol to keep my heart from working too hard, but do not have normal high blood pressure. So, my Diabetic dr. told me to stop the 5.0 mg of lysiniprol for 2 weeks and get a 3rd potassium test. I do drink alcohol but work out daily for 1.5 hours at the gym. I don't kow why I have high levels and am scared.
I'm sorry to hear about the medical conditions affecting your normal routines.
Why are you taking lisinopril (if i got it correctly) ? Lisinopril can cause retention of Pottassium in body. If you are not having hypertension or cardiac failure symptoms try switching the drug with your treating physicians advice.
Drinking alcohol daily is anyway bad for your body.(except in mild quantitie like some 30 ml per day). Appreciate your habit of working out regularly but please do include more of cardio exercises in your workout regime. Individual muscle exercises just shape that muscle only.
Thank you. Please revert with further details and queries.
