What Could Cause Prolonged Periods & Blood Clots From Uterus?

My friend has been on her "period" for about a month. She went to the hospital and they gave her a Ultrasound and they found 5 black spots on her Uterus, and they said the blood clots are coming out of her Uterus. Does she have Cancer or is this even possible?
