What Could Cause Sharp Pain In Head, On And Off Memory Loss And Mood Swings?

Hi I was just wondering if you would be able to give me some advice if possible, for years now I have suffered with migrains and headaches and their came to a point last year when they got that bad I went to the doctors and they sent me for a brain scan, when I went with this it showed I was producing to much prolactin so sent me for another blood test to see if it was still high but it had gone back to normal we put this down to me ring on my time of the month at the time. Just recently though I have started getting sharp pains In the left side of my head and hAve had this before. Besides this I struggle to remember things an example is if I watch a film and then am asked what happens or what it is about I can t answer it even though I have watched it and my mood swings sugar level and behaviour at college. I have always struggled with my behaviour since year8 of high school and it started to get better but each year I go through a period where I really struggle and my behaviour drops back to normal this can t be normal for a 19year old. Iam told at college my behaviour is bad but it just doesn t register to me that it is and surely can t be normal for someone my age I also can t concentrate to save my life please help I really don t know what to do. Thanks Chloe.

Hello,

Since you have a history of high prolactin level in your blood, you are suggested to get it treated. It causes tension headache & migraines.

Tension headache & migraines, in turn, cause mood swings, depression, stress & anxiety.

Get physically examined by a GP, get Blood tests, Imaging tests(CT, MRI) & vision tests are done. Treatment (medications or surgery) will depend upon the pathology detected.

Mood swings commonly occur due to clinical depression or substance abuse. Avoid addictions if any. Take the help of a Physiotherapist/Counselor/Psychiatrist to help you get out of behaviors problems & mood swings.

You are very young to get properly examined & treated. Switch to a healthy lifestyle & take nutritious food, stay well hydrated & take adequate sleep.

You should not bother about what others say about you. Concentrate on making your life more comfortable & happy. Do regular exercises, make new friends, read books, join the gym, take food that makes you healthy. Avoid substance abuse.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
