Hello and welcome,
I understand your concern.
A small head is called
microcephaly. There are various causes for these and the commonest is
IUGR or intra uterine growth restriction. In this the baby does not grow properly due to various reasons like nutrient deficit, placental problems, inherent growth issues, infections etc. Such babies usually resume growth well after birth. If the growth is very less or if there is lack of nutrients and
oxygen then the baby may become asphyxiated [ choked for oxygen] and so it is difficult for it to survive inside the
uterus. In this case it is better to deliver it as it has a better chance to survive outside the uterus as the inside environment has become too hostile for him.
Other reasons for a small head are problems of bone fusion, genetic defects, drugs, alcohol use in mother,
smoking etc.
So please do not worry about it now. Just relax as worry will cause raised blood pressure and release the bad hormones that will further decrease the babies growth. Eat and sleep well, drink milk and have an egg white daily and also eat fresh fruits and vegetables and sleep on one side to ensure maximum blood supply to the baby to help it grow.
All my good wishes are with you.
Take care.
Hope this satisfies your query.
