Hi. This past week I was given antibiotics for strep throat. I've had many of these before but the strange thing about this one is that I seem to be more congested than the previous times. I've also noticed flecks of gray in my mucus when I blow my nose. I was just curious as to what could be causing the gray flecks.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have strep throat after which seems to be due to infection in throat leading to Strep throat. It could be due to bacterial infection of upper respiratory tract as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. For pain and swelling you should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants and anti inflammatory . Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food substances , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
