Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am a 28 year old female. Of late I have been experiencing a tingling sensation in my left hand but only at night. It is more prominent around the thumb. It is severe enough to wake me but after a lot of shaking and pulling of the thumb, I manage to get some relief. It becomes better if I leave my hand in a dangling position. During the day time I seem to be fine. What could it mean?
Hi, These could be the early symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a relatively common condition that causes pain, numbness and a tingling sensation in the hand and fingers. Usually, these sensations develop gradually and start off being worse during the night. They tend to affect the thumb, index finger, middle finger and half of the ring finger. Wrist splits and steroid injections can be considered in some mild to moderate cases. In more severe cases, surgery is the answer and will cure the condition. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
