Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Cause Vomiting And Foul Smelling, Watery Stools In An Infant?
My 15 months daughter started vomiting suddenly 3 days ago. She vomiting in total about 6 times within 24 hours. during that time, she had a temp. of about 100 degree F. Then the vomiting subsided but she refuses to eat. Her fever also went down. Now the new thing is that whenever she's having a bowel movement, which is maybe twice or thrice a day, her stool is foul smelling, yellowish runny mess. I am thinking it's some type of stomach virus, and understands that it runs it course, but I am a little worried about the fact that she is not eating much. She's been sleeping a lot as a result and looking pretty sad. Her ped. is not very concerned but I will phone her again on Monday and ask to be seen. Thanks! qMishou
Hi, From history it seems that she might be having acute Gastro-enteritis giving rise this problem. She might require one antibiotic medicine course. There is a risk of having dehydration so it is better to consult her pediatrician as early as possible. Mean while give her plenty of water, electrolytes and ORS liquid. Ok and take care.
