What Could Central Disc Protrusion In The Report Suggest?
i have a small central disc protrusion with annular fissure which contacts the ventral thecal sac superimposed upon a shallow disc buldge without central canal narrowing at L5-s1. it also says the neural foramina and lateral recesses are patent what does all that mean in laymans terms?
MRI findings suggests mild degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. It is due to chronic stress on annulus fibrosis.
At L5-S1 level, there is small central inter vertebral disc herniation with annular fissure and herniated disc is indenting thecal sac.It is good that there is no central spinal canal narrowing due to herniated disc.
Bilateral neural foramen are also patent. So,findings suggests mild degenerative changes in L/S spine.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy and analgesics.Since you have mild findings,so you should try physiotherapy first.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.
