Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Extreme Pain In Lower Abdomen During Periods Indicate?
I am a girl of 23 years, and I have severe lower abdominal pain anytime I have my period. It is so painful that i cant even walk, i have seen a doctor several times but to no avail, and at times even after I am done with my menses, I still have this pains for some days. I went for a cervical test about 8months ago but d results was negative. Please what is wrong with me? I m really worried.
How long you are having this problem? Are the cycles irregular? Bleeding is heavy or normal? any blood test or scanning of abdomen done so far?
Dysmenorrhea can be primary (without a treatable underlying cause) or secondary (due to another disease). If this started recently (initial periods being painless), cycles are irregular, bleeding heavy or pain does not respond to simple analgesics, this is probably secondary and we have to evaluate for any cause.
Otherwise simple analgesics like ibuprofen or mefanamic acid taken around the cycle is all that is needed. Regular exercise and keeping away from tobacco smoke also will help. Kindly discuss with your gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
