What Could Frequent Constipation And Red Dots In Stools Of A Toddler Indicate?

my 2.5 year old daughter has always had a hard time passing stool, so i m always keeping track of her bowel movements. Twice in the last 4 days, she has had one or two red dots in her stool. the daycare lady showed me photos. it looked like tomato skin. she did have pasta sauce both of those days and she didn t have a hard time passing. could this be the tomato or should I be concerned? everything is otherwise normal.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there is trauma to the anus due to previous straining then this would cause blood but it can be related to the pasta used that she may have used.

To reduce her constipation, she needs to drink a lot of fluids and use fiber (fruits and vegetables) with each meal (each main meal and snack).

Whole grain foods would also help.
If constipation continues she should be checked to rule out any underlying causes.

I hope this helps
