What Could Have Caused Bilateral Breast Cancer?

I had bilateral breast cancer, both breasts removed with nodes. That was 13 years ago. No problems during that time. About a year ago I experienced several episodes of left arm swelling, skin red and hot....Dr. prescribed drugs and took a few days for it to subside. Last Nov. 2016, I was going to see my Oncologist, it was cold and rainy....I wore a sweatshirt under my raincoat. By the time I got to my appoint. 25 min. later my arm was hurting. The Dr. took one look at my swollen arm, which was red and hot and pushed me in a wheelchair over to the hospital (which is just across the parking lot) to the ER. They put me in a room within 10 min. and a team of Drs. gave me antibiotics by IV and started to figure out what was causing this, they kept me a week. The redness stopped, the swelling subsided. However, they still didn t know what caused it. I had my 6 mo. checkup with my Oncologist recently and we discussed that maybe it was lymphedema causing this. I had never seen a Lymphedemiologist, so I have an appointment with one next week or so. They will evaluate my arms, which are not swollen now, and set up appointments and sleeves, etc. Do you know what could have started this after 13 years? Thank you. Madolyn Hayne YYYY@YYYY I had several kinds of exrays, scans, etc. and they could find no reason for it.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The bilateral breast cancer are most likely indicative of genetic mutation most likely p 53, BRCA 1 or HER 2 genes. A detailed analysis of the genetics of previously preserved blocks with or without new blood analysis is mandatory to proceed with the treating oncologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
