What Could Increased Fever While On Antibiotics For Ear Infection In An Infant Indicate?

Female 10 months old, had an ear infection. MD tried 2 different antibiotics. Baby spikes a fever of 104.5 and is hospitalized and on IV antibiotics. WBC is just a little over normal. Did well all day. Now is spiking a fever of 104.7???? MD is trying to rule out Kawasaki disease? What are other possible causes?

Hello and thanks for writing.

Kaemwasaki disease usually does not cause high grade fever but yes the test is indicated. Get an ENT surgeon's opinion as it may be due to ASOM or mastoiditis or abscess related conplication.
