Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm very scared. I am having shizophrenic-like symptoms. I am currently diagnosed with manic depression with major depressive features. I am planning on being tested for lyme disease because I feel like that may be a possibility. I don't know what is going on.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Lyme Disease if caused by Borrelia a bacteria. In Lyme Disease most of the times during infection skin lesions are commonly seen and then that progress to more disseminated infection. Psychosis or Schizophrenia like symptoms are seen in rare cases but they are not very common. Still to be on safer side then you can go for tests. ELISA testing is done for Lyme Disease and once this comes positive then more specific test Western Blot is advised. You can visit a lab and get your self checked to rule out the illness. But in my opinion and you have been diagnosed with depression with bipolar disorder then you should consult a psychiatrist for treatment and to rule out Schizophrenia. Continue to take your prescribed medicines and visit your psychiatrist regularly.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
