What Could Mucus Covered Stools With Pain Below The Rib Cage Indicate?
hi, for the past two weeks I ve had raisin sized orangey colored stool covered in what i presume to be muscus. It s been accompanied by pain right below my rib cage on the left side and occasionally the pain seems to go to the left...lower closer to my hip. I have requested an appointment but my doctor is pretty booked, so I don t know when I can get in. Help :/
Mucus from the rectum, whether it comes out with or without stool, is a sign that something is not going well in the colon. It can be from an infection or parasites. It could also be from an inflammatory condition like inflammatory bowel disease. The place to start is to see your doctor. They will want to do a rectal exam and then get stool samples to look for infection and parasites. If all of that is normal they will want you to get a colonoscopy or other testing to determine the cause. See your doctor soon so that this condition does not get worse.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
