Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Painful Area On Calf With A Bruise Due To Running Indicate?
I have recently started running, again. My calf was sore a couple days ago from a run and then when I went for a run today my calf cramped up pretty bad. I have been limping all day and when I changed into shorts I noticed a bruise in the exact place it had been hurting. I am 100% sure I did not run into anything on the spot, it is on my calf. Its never happened before, should I be concerned about this?
Your symptoms are suggestive of muscle soreness due to excess running. Dehydration and any associated leg cramps if any should be treated. Fluid and electrolyte deficiency should be corrected by adequate hydration. Internal bleeding can sometimes cause bruising. Small bleed will settle on its own. Increase in bruise or associated increase in pain should be immediately treated.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
