What Could Painful, Hard Lump Below The Left Knee Indicate?

I m a 60 yr old female. A very hard lump has appeared just below my left knee to the outside a couple of months ago. It has become more prominent and painful. Some swelling around it and the back of my knee hurts when I straighten it out or when I lay it down. It has become very uncomfortable in a matter of a few days. Thanks you, Sondra

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, such knee swelling could be due to arthritis changes or may be due to cyst and it may sometime have infection, formation of abscess may be the cause, over all condition need to be clinically examined and investigated till then "Tab Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen can be tried, diabetes need to be ruled out, hope this information helps, take care.
