What Could Painful Red Spots Near The Left Shin With Swollen Foot Indicate?

Hi! I have about 8 red spots at the bottom of my leg right by my left shin (one leg only). They are extremely painful to touch. This started about a week ago. My left leg from the knee down feels like it is on fire, and it is painful to put any weight on that leg. My calf/foot/ankle is extremely swollen and it is hot to the touch. These spots and pain level have neither increased/decreased over the past week. Help! I live in Alabama (figured I should add that, as I m assuming it is a bite of some kind). I can add a picture if necessary.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the painful red spots near left shin with swollen foot indicates bacterial infection of skin or subcutaneous tissue with gram positive bugs most likely.

The staph aureus is the usual bacteria responsible in such cases. The initial impact of minor redness and cellulitis later turns into residual skin eruptions, spread to its vicinity with systemic features of fever and else.

I would like to quote salient guidelines as:
- Immediate consulting with your primary care
- Foot elevation over 3 pillows support
- Prescription of IV antibiotics or oral depending upon the level of temperature, tenderness and supportive data fact of total WBC count
- Anti-inflammatory medicines with diclofenac, serratiopeptidase content

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
