What Could Painful Stings On Lips Suggest?

Hello, about 12 hours ago I was sitting on my couch when I noticed that the left side of my upper lip was was feeling like pins and needles and then it started to swell. Since then it has increased to nearly 3/4 of the lip. It is not a surface problem like a pimple or cold sore. It's like I was stung by a bee (but I was not). I not taking any meds and the only allergy I have is to penicillin. What could cause this?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painful stings on lips which is due to severe allergic reaction to allergen. It is a type of urticaria. It could be due to dehydration and stress as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply petroleum jelly on it. You should drink plenty of water. You should take combination of levocetirizine along with Ibuprofen if it is painful. Visit dermatologist once and get it examined. Start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take supplements rich in vitamin B12. You should give cold compresses to lips 2-3 times a day, take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl. Adrenaline injection could be one of the treatment option. Avoid exposure to sunlight.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
