What Could Persistent Dull Pain In Right Side Below The Rib Cage Indicate?
Following exercise 3 weeks ago I noticed a dull pain to my right side below the rib cage, the pain has not gone away and is now worse, it s painful to sleep and really hurts when rolling over, standing up or sitting down. Any ideas what this might be? I am a fit and healthy 41 year old male.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You seem to have muscular spasm due to excessive stress to the part OR possibly injury to intervertebral space in thoracic spine causing irritation of the nerve fibers supplying the musculature the part. You should take rest, hot compress, apply muscle relaxantointments like Relaxyl ointment over the counter. Taking pain medicine like Combiflam after food would help you. If no relief with these, you should consult a spinal orthopedic doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
