Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Persistent Shortness Of Breath Indicate?
I ve been having shortness of breath for about 3 weeks now. I ve never been in the hospital for anything other than kidney stones. I ve gained some weight but not sure if thats causing thsw or not. L Early this morning I woke up and couldn t breather normally and got a little scared. What could be causing this
Can you mention few more details- Your age & sex? Is the shortness of breath there throughout the day? What about when you are sleeping? Any particular change in symptom during laying down or exertion? Any associated cough or leg edema?
If you don't have difficulty during exertion, no edema, no symptom during sleep, and no cough or chest pain- this is unlikely to be significant.
Often I comes across patients with similar complaint, especially young-middle aged women, who on examination reveals nothing abnormal. Here the symptom is just a subjective feeling. All that needed in such cases is a reassurance, mental and emotional support and mind relaxation techniques.
If you have any above mentioned features, kindly see your doctor for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
