What Could Raised BP With Swollen Ankles While Being On Altace Mean?

I am 62, male,5'9", 150lbs., and run 4 to 5 miles a day, 8 to 9 minute miles. I've had an early history of spiking blood pressure, 180/100 on occasion. I've been on Altace, 15mg for over 5 yrs and it had kept me on average about 145/80. Recently I have been spiking to 190/90 with slightly swollen ankles, and when the swelling is less, I could be 120/70 after running. I've had the adrenal glands checked for tumors 20 years ago with no indication. Is something else going on, or should I be discussing a medication change? I have had no side affect from Altace compared with other products over the years.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Follow up blood pressure closely. 190 systolic is too high.
2. Control salt intake. Continue with your exercises and regular medication.
3. Limb elevation in lying down position with limbs above level of heart should reduce swelling. If it persists, low dose diuretics can reduce the swelling. Altace does not cause it. Continue treatment.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
